General Information

Our School of Physical Education and Sports Teaching Department, in our history of Sports Higher Education; After Gazi Education Institute, which started education in 1932-1933 academic year, it is the higher education institution that trains second physical education teachers established in Istanbul Education Institute in 1967-1968 academic year.

Istanbul Education Institute Physical Education Department, which gave its first graduates in 1970, received its first female students in the academic year of 1969-1970.

Depending on the Ministry of National Education, the department, which implemented a 3-year physical education teacher program from 1967 to 1980, was transferred to the 4-year physical education undergraduate program from the Institute, which became the Istanbul Atatürk Higher Teacher School in the 1980-1981 academic year. In the same year, it was combined with Anadoluhisarı Youth and Sports Academy, which was established in 1975 with the Higher Education Law, and was linked to the Atatürk Education Faculty of Marmara University as a Department of Physical Education Teaching. The students, who were admitted to the first classes of both institutions that year, graduated in 1994 as Physical Education and Sports Teacher by following the same program.

Our department was connected to the School of Physical Education and Sports, which was established in 1992 in Anadoluhisarı campus of our University, under the Rectorate, which offers a four-year undergraduate education and has three departments and faculty authorities. Our department, which has given the “Physical Education and Sports Teaching” diploma to the graduates of all departments until 1998, under the condition that they take pedagogical formation courses, gives only physical education teacher diploma to their graduates after 1998 in line with the decisions of the Board of Education and Education.

With the establishment of departments in Sport Higher Education, our department; It consists of two departments: “Physical Education and Sports” and “Psycho-social Areas in Sports”. Accordingly, the courses taught in the staff and departments of our faculty members were determined.

Student Admission

 Students are admitted to our Physical Education and Sports Education department with a Transition Selection Higher Score and a two-stage Special Ability Exam from at least two sports  . Candidates are expected to score above the YGS base score declared by our School for the Department that year and to be sufficient in more than one sport branch, in addition to being very good in a sport branch.

Program and Courses

Physical education and sports education program has been prepared in line with the standards created by the Teacher Training Turkish National Committee, which is formed by the decision of the Higher Education General Assembly dated 19/09/1997, and includes representatives of the Faculties of Education, Higher Education Council and the Ministry of National Education. Physical Education and sports training our program, all physical education teachers of common content for training programs implemented in Turkey and specific to our School Unlike sharing other universities "Modular programs" serve specialization opportunity in le sport disciplines and professions.

Elective Specialties

 The "elective applied" (SAD) sports branches, which have 70% or more of the core courses of a sports branch and opened when at least 5 teacher candidates have chosen, provide “first level coaching” education accepted by the relevant federation. In addition, our teacher candidates; In accordance with the module courses they will choose, they can receive education in three areas such as Physical Education teacher in the Disabled, Primary and Secondary Education.

Work and Business Fields

In line with the decision of the Ministry of Education Board of Education, dated 07.07.2009 and numbered 80, our graduates are working as “monthly equivalent” physical education teachers in primary and secondary education institutions. In addition, they can work as authorized in all areas related to sports skills, culture and performance.
